Meet Jessica.

  • Can be found: Lost in a good book
  • Likes to: Make others laugh
  • Will beat you: In a word search
  • Wants a family that: Spends time together

Jessica is excited to share some of her story through our In-Depth Profiles, a NWAE project that gives youth in foster care the leading voice in finding their own adoptive family.

Check out our other In-Depth Profiles.

Jessica wanted to share directly with families so they could get to know her.

Meet Jessica, who wanted to share about herself in her own words:

“My name is Jessica. I like to color, read, do jigsaw puzzles, and word search, and I love to play with animals for fun. My hobbies are swimming, camping, helping in the kitchen, watching movies, and going out to eat! The singers I like to listen to are Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, The Beach Boys, and The Monkees (the oldies). One thing I need with me is my dog, her name is Daisy. A few of my favorite things are the color purple and black; some foods I like to eat are menudo and posole and junk food like hot Cheetos. I like to help cook. What I want in my family are people who don’t yell a lot and that love animals (somewhat big dogs), a family I can talk to when I’m in need of support or love, a family that loves to play family games, watch movies together, and people that don’t work all the time, and a family that enjoys spending quality time together.”

Jessica, who almost always has a smile on her face, has a cheerful, upbeat personality. She really wants a family who can help her navigate the rest of her teenage years and pursue her future. In 10th grade during the 2017-18 school year, Jessica is doing amazing in her classes. Jessica’s teachers all consider her a joy to have around, and note that she is very helpful and kind to other students. Jessica is the kind of person to stand up for anyone getting picked on or bullied; a true kind-heart and brave soul. Her favorite subjects in school are math and English, especially creative writing. Recently, Jessica has gained an interest in digital design and loves to create PowerPoint presentations.

Even outside of the classroom, you will often find Jessica with a book in her hand. She enjoys getting lost in the latest fiction novel, and even spends hours upon hours after school in the library, reading and studying.

"Reading books is like making up the movie as you go along." -Jessica

Fashion is important to this teen girl, too! She loves to watch YouTube tutorials on new ways to style her hair; currently, she’s learning how to achieve the perfect curl. Jessica also cherishes her Converse shoes and has a goal of getting a pair in every color.

Jessica is ready for a family of her own! She is looking forward to a family who will value spending time together. It’s important to Jessica that her family takes pride in her Hispanic heritage and provides opportunities for her to be part of the community’s social and cultural activities. We’d like to hear from couples and single moms who would welcome the opportunity to parent and mentor Jessica as she navigates her way to adulthood, assuring she has the resources available to her that she needs to be most successful. If you are a family that will embrace Jessica, and enjoy and build upon her strengths, we want to hear from you! Let’s find Jessica the adoptive family she deserves.

Beyond the Profile: I had so much fun working with Jessica to help her give families a glimpse into who she is. Jessica has the unique ability to laugh loudly and be goofy in one moment, and in the next share deeply and intentionally about herself. She has a strong voice, evidenced by the different ways she helped create her own In-Depth Profile. I think her effusive joy and personal depth are able to shine through here, and I feel fortunate to help give Jessica a platform so she can speak and share on her own behalf.
