Robert is excited to share some of his story through our In-Depth Profiles, a NWAE project that gives youth in foster care the leading voice in finding their own adoptive family.

Check out our other In-Depth Profiles.

Robert teamed up with a local artist to give families a glimpse into his love of art and painting.

Robert is a friendly, soft-spoken teenager with a great sense of humor. He has a number of interests and hobbies and likes to stay busy. Ideally, he’d like to live in or near a city where he’d have lots of opportunities to play basketball and football, participate in wrestling, and ride his skateboard – all things he really enjoys doing.

Robert likes animals and would love to have family pets in his adoptive home. Starting his sophomore year in high school in the fall, Robert would benefit from having parents who will work with him one-on-one. He is diligently moving forward academically and is making good progress, with the encouragement of significant adults and educators in his life. He has made quite a few friends in school, and is a good student when he puts in the right amount of effort.

Robert has a particular affinity for painting and artwork – he wanted to give families a window into what he loves. Check out his video and art pictures as you scroll!

Robert recently got the chance to show off his art skills and learn from local artist Fulgencio Lazo.

Robert is also a talented artist, although he’s probably far too humble to share that if you’re just meeting him! He enjoys drawing, painting, doodling, tracing, and incorporating his hobbies into his creations. He would love to be part of a family who encourages his creativity, as well as his athleticism. The chance to attend sporting events and visit museums and art galleries with his family would be a great experience for Robert.

Robert has grown a lot in the past few years, emotionally maturing and growing into the skateboard-loving teenager he is today. He’s mindful of how he’s feeling, identifies his own comfort zone and personal space when he needs it, and is sensitive to others around him.

Robert likes to incorporate his hobbies and interests into his artwork.

Moving forward, Robert will do best in a family with parent(s) who are committed to helping him grow into these teenage years! A family that can model independence, healthy relationships, and be solid role models will be a good fit for Robert. It will also be important for Robert’s family to be strong educational advocates for him.

Robert would prefer to have one or two moms, or a mom/dad couple. He has also expressed he would enjoy having older siblings, as well as a family pet or two in the home. Robert will also be counting on his adoptive family to help him maintain his relationship with his siblings, and he hopes to be able to connect with other extended family members as appropriate. A family who genuinely enjoys spending time together is a concept Robert is excited about. Robert will thrive with a family who can teach him the importance of being independent while also being there for him through all stages of his life. And another thing: Robert would like to have Wi-Fi in the home. (Naturally!) Robert deeply wants to be adopted. If you feel you or your family could be a good fit for this great teenager, reach out to us!

Beyond the Profile: It was so fun to help create a time and space for Robert to invest in something he loves – art. For a teenager who loves art, there are few things better than a professional studio space set aside just for you. Decked out with blank canvases, paints, brushes, and even a professional artist to offer tips, suggestions, and work alongside him….Robert was in his element! Our partner-artist who made it all possible, Fulgencio Lazo, was a terrific host, encouraging creativity, co-creating with Robert, and opening his studio. Every teenager who’s interested in being more involved in their own adoption recruitment efforts has their own way they want to share. It was a pleasure to help tailor this experience to who Robert is, and the piece of him he wanted to share with potential families.
